Molecular Diagnostics

Molecular diagnostics involves detection and/or analysis of nucleic acid molecules (DNA or RNA) to provide clinical information that is used to diagnose & subsequently treat an ailment. Molecular diagnostics is the outcome of the fruitful interplay among laboratory medicine, genomics knowledge, and technology in the field of molecular genetics.

The two main types of tests performed in Molecular Diagnostics are pathogen detection and genetic testing.

In pathogen detection (eg. bacteria, virus, fungus), we search for specific pathogen-derived nucleic acid sequences in your sample to determine whether you are infected with this pathogen.

In genetic testing, human nucleic acids are analyzed from which a number of types of clinical information can be gathered, including the presence or absence of a disorder, carriership of hereditary disorders or projection of responsiveness to particular drug therapies.

LHD Molecular diagnostics laboratory is equipped with Real Time Thermal Cyclers and other state of the art equipment required for molecular diagnosis. Most of the tests are done with real time PCR technique which offers high grade of sensitivity and accuracy of the results.
