Flow cytometry is a technique by which physical or chemical attributes of cells or particles are measured in a fluid (flow) stream. Current notable applications of flow cytometry include monitoring T- cell counts in patients with HIV infection, determining tumor DNA content, sorting specific populations, assessing haematolymphoid neoplasmas, and determining nucleated cell differentials in routine peripheral blood CBC assessments.
We are proud to host multiparametric flow cytometry analysis which is a powerful tool in the diagnosis of myeloid disorder. “Multiparametric flowcyto metric analysis uses a 3- to 6- colour (or more) flouorescence testing method, in conjunction with forward and side light scatter characteristics, allowing at least 5-8 different parameters (or more) to be evaluated simultaneously on cell populations. The terms “3- or 6- colour indicate the number of different antibodies that can be combined together simultaneously.
The Flow cytometry determines:
Linage of new acute leukemia.
Evaluate for blood involvement by chronic lymphoid disorders.
Evaluate for increased blasts in cases of MDS and /or MPN.
Detect aberrant antigen expression (eg,MDS).
Evaluate for plasma cell dyscrasia.
Monitor for minimal residual disease.
Diagnosis of paroxysmal nocturnal Haemoglobinuria.
